The symptoms of stress incontinence are not only disruptive to normal daily activities but can be emotionally distressing.
There are multiple risk factors that contribute to stress incontinence such as illnesses that cause chronic pressure on the pelvic floor, pregnancy and childbirth, obesity, hormonal changes and previous pelvic surgery. During pregnancy the hormonal changes and pressure of the growing baby can cause weakening of the pelvic floor. Pelvic nerve and muscle injury during childbirth and pelvic organ prolapse can also contribute to symptoms of stress incontinence. A recent study found that 58% of mothers experience incontinence, vaginal dryness and pain during intercourse a year after having their baby. 50% of women with stress incontinence will also develop an overactive bladder.
As women reach their perimenopausal stage in life and transition to menopause and post menopause a depletion of the hormone oestrogen causes the Genitourinary Symptoms of Menopause (GSM). GSM describes the multiple changes occurring in the external genitalia, pelvic floor tissues, bladder and urethra, and the sexual sequelae of loss of sexual function and libido. Vaginal symptoms reported include vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse and vaginal wall prolapse. Urinary symptoms include stress and urge incontinence, pain and voiding issues.
Stress Incontinence and GSM is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach to management. Current treatments include lifestyle modification, pelvic floor exercise program, personal lubricants, hormonal therapies and in some cases surgery.
The Empower RF platform provides a treatment option for women who are not suitable or don’t wish to have hormonal treatment or surgery. It can also complement existing therapy to further improve a woman’s symptoms.

EmpowerRF is a multiplatform device which has 3 different applicators specifically designed for multiple concerns. A customised treatment plan suitable for your needs will be discussed upon consultation. The applicators can be used individually or used in combination to optimise the outcome.
This applicator uses EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) to strengthen and re-educate pelvic floor muscles. V Tone can improve the symptoms of all types of urinary incontinence including stress, urge, mixed and overflow incontinence. V Tone strengthens pelvic floor muscles and restores vaginal muscle tone improving vaginal sensitivity, laxity and symptoms of incontinence. The pubic area will need to be shaved 2-3 days before Morpheus 8V and FormaV treatment.
The treatment time will take 45-60 minutes for each device. Topical anaesthetic will be applied for the Morheus 8V making it a comfortable process. With Morpheus 8V we recommend avoiding intercourse, pelvic exams, and tampons for 2-7 days and keep the area moist with recommended products provided at your visit. With the Forma V we recommend the same for 2 days post treatment.
You are safe to drive to and from your treatment.
Most patients will notice results after the first treatment and continued improvement after the complete series of treatments. To maintain optimal results, annual maintenance treatments are highly recommended.
V Tone, Forma V and Morpheus 8V are safe effective treatments. Whilst serious side effects are rare all medical treatments carry risks, and this will be discussed with you in detail during your consultation.
During your consultation your suitability for Empower RF is assessed including screening for contraindications. Some of which include pregnancy, active UTI or pelvic infection, pelvic surgery in the last 12 months and electronic implants such as a cardiac pacemaker.
